2KCBWDAY6 - Something To Aspire To
Is there a pattern or skill that you don’t yet feel ready to tackle but which you hope to (or think you can only dream of) tackling in the future, near or distant? Is there a skill or project that makes your mind boggle at the sheer time, dedication and mastery of the craft?
I have been knitting and crocheting now for some years, but believe it or not I have never knit a sock (or in the round at all for that matter, but let's focus on the sock thing...). I own some double-pointed needles, but have never used them for anything other than i-cords. I'd really love to be able to knit socks, but for some reason knitting in the round scares the hell out of me. I can crochet in the round just fine (so long as I use stitch markers!), but not knit.
I think if I had to pick a goal for my knitting in the next month, I would like to be able to knit a pair of socks. Any old socks will do, I just need to overcome that fear of knitting in the round--the rest can come later. The goal is somewhat complicated by the fact that there seems to be three main methods for sock knitting: double pointed needles, two circular needles, or a single (large) circular needle with magic loop. So I have a question for you knitters out there: which knitting method do you prefer for knitting socks, and why?

Hiya, thanks for the comment on my blog! I love knitting socks and taught myself how to knit them a couple of years ago. I knit very basic socks using dpn's and a very simple pattern. The trickiest bit is probably joining the round and the first few rows. www.knittinghelp.com has some great video tutorials of all the different stitches and techniques. I'd say give it a go - if I can work out how to do it then anyone can!
